Failing to adjust for meteorological conditions accounts for about two thirds of inaccuracy.Studies conclude that the largest improvements in accuracy can be achieved using meteorological corrections. During the past 25 years hundreds of Vaisala sounding systems are used world wide by defence forces.
Vaisala provides two different technology sounding systems: 1680 MHz band RDF for tracking and wind finding, and 403 MHz band systems using GPS for positioning and wind finding. Both type of systems are mobile and quick to be deployed. They provide meteorological data in standard NATO and WMO message formats using either serial communication lines or TCP/IP FTP server. For fire control units’ ballistic corrections, Vaisala’s upper air weather observation systems are ideal.
