Vaisala's automatic weather station to be used by Denver's no. 1 TV Weathercast: KMGH Channel 7

tips on how to present weather news.

In April, a Vaisala HydroMet™ Automatic Weather Station MAWS301 was installed on top of the Channel 7 building in downtown Denver. Mike Nelson, the number 1 TV weather personality in the region, has used the Vaisala equipment since then for the 5, 6, and 10 PM Weathercasts.

On August 11, 2005, the station received its initial approval as a National Weather Service Co-Operative Reporting Site – a first for a television station in the USA. Over the course of the next two months, Mike Nelson is looking to upgrade the station’s status to make it Denver’s official reporting site. This status change would replace the readings obtained from Denver International Airport, which resides some 20 miles from downtown Denver.

This initiative kicks off collaboration between Channel 7 and Vaisala, promoting the station's dedication to securing the best weather information for its viewers based on the reliable high-resolution Vaisala equipment.

Association with Vaisala has high value to Channel 7's weather department

- We are pleased to have an association with Vaisala.
This partnership is a first in Denver television and
a first in the nation. We look forward to many good
things yet to evolve from this. -
Mike Nelson

The MAWS301 installation was televised in time lapse on Channel 7’s Weathercast. Chief Meteorologist Mike Nelson introduced the new system and its role in his future weather forecasts. Mike has been forecasting the weather in Colorado for the past 14 years, and has won 10 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Weather Anchor.
